Life can feel daunting, overwhelming, and heavy. It’s easy to get caught up in the waves and feel like nothing is going your way. In these moments, you might wonder if you did something to deserve this misfortune. But often, we face trials and tribulations to reveal our inherent need for Christ. We go through difficulties not to break us, but to shape us and help us grow.
To explore this theme, we turn to Romans 5:1-5: “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
This scripture reminds us not to undermine our trials. We do not suffer in vain – life’s hardest moments are stepping stones to growth. It’s often during life’s darkest moments that we truly appreciate the candle lighting our path. The Bible encourages us to rejoice in our troubles because we have peace with God. Peace in what? Peace in knowing that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
We have the blessed assurance that our suffering is not meaningless. It serves as a reminder of God’s purpose for us. In our weakness, His strength shines. It is through growing pains that we blossom into who God wants us to be. So be not discouraged, but rejoice in the peace that has been bestowed upon you.
